About the Indianapolis Municipal Band
Our Mission
"To provide an enjoyable and beneficial musical experience for audiences and members in the greater Indianapolis area through preparation and performance of a varied repertoire of concert band music."

The Indianapolis Municipal Band is Indy's longest-running, all-volunteer community band, primarily comprised of talented amateur performers who do not receive the majority of their livelihood from participation in the ensemble.

The IMB regularly performs 10-12 concerts per year (all free to attend), ranging from Performing Arts Centers to "concerts in the park", and plays a wide variety of music, from classical to holiday.

In addition to its concert schedule, the IMB promotes music education through its scholarship program "The Edgar Axsom Future Music Educator Scholarship".

From its early days in 1949 as an employee activity for members of Detroit-Diesel Allison until now as Indy's premiere community band, the 75-piece band is a local musical treasure with a wealth of talent and a reputation for delighting audiences of all ages.
