Dr. Richard Beach is a long-time member of the Indianapolis Municipal Band and
has served as principal clarinet, board member, Assistant Director,
and Interim Music Director. His involvement with other community music groups
has included being a member and guest conductor of the Zionsville Concert
Band, Director of Shrine Bands in Louisville and Indianapolis, and Director
of the Youth Band at the University of Louisville. As a member of the
American Federation of Musicians, he was a performer in dance bands and pit orchestras.
Richard spent a number of years in public schools as a teacher, music department
chairman, psychologist, counselor, supervisor of student teachers, and beginning
teacher mentor. He was the recipient of an Outstanding Teacher Award from
the Society for Intensified Education. In addition to teaching, he compiled and edited the instrumental music curriculum guides for the Jefferson County Schools in Louisville and for the Indianapolis Public Schools. Other professional experience included the position of Director of Education at the Hamilton Center with
responsibilities in the areas of staff development, community relations,
student placements, and management of library holdings.

Richard Beach earned a Ph.D. from Indiana State University where he held a graduate fellowship which involved teaching educational psychology and supervising practicum students on the Terre Haute campus and in the program for officer advancement at Fort Benjamin Harrison. Additionally, he was a member of the staff of the Student Counseling Center. He holds a bachelor's degree from Hanover College, plus master's degrees from both the University of Cincinnati and Ball State University with further graduate study at Eastern Kentucky University, Morehead State University, Indiana Wesleyan University, and the University of Louisville.
He is a member of the International Clarinet Association, the National Education Association, the National Association for Music Education, Indiana Historical Society, and Phi Delta Kappa.
